Electric

¬†When I first got hold of some electroluminescent wire I wanted to use it for a guitar shot. It took me a while to get around to it, and when I did I discovered that stringing a guitar with EL wire isn’t really that easy. Who would have guessed. Once it was ready Fuchsia played it for me and Sian did the makeup.

The wire is electroluminescent and does need a power supply – but you can power it from a battery powered inverter. I get mine here:

Keep the ISO low (100), open the shutter for the length of the movement and control the exposure by varying the aperture and the speed of the motion.

    Dear Dave,
First off i just want to compliment you on your shots. I’m currently working on an art project o be exhibited at a local store for an art festival and most of my shots have no theme so i wanted to start a project with all related pictures and decided on capturing motion with long exposure and light and came across your site. I just have a question about the wire used here. Does it need to remain plugged in and where did you get yours? Also, any tips you have for shooting (ISO etc.) would be awesome considering I’m amateur to the extreme haha. Sorry for the book os a post for 3 questions but any help would be awesome. Alex.
