These shots are from a recent shoot with India, taken just before she moved back to Poland from Aberdeen. All are daylight, with the exception of Eidolon - which is a single-exposure, move-the-model shot, lit with an incandescent modelling light and a torch. I recently discovered the work of Alexey Titarenko - truly outstanding stuff, so I keep trying to think of ways to add movement to my images.

I was showing someone Google Analyitics yesterday, and when I pulled up the Map Overlay screen and drilled down to the USA I saw this. For the last month I’ve had hits from every single United State except one. Now in truth I’m astonished that I’m getting hits from so many places - my site isn’t exactly high bandwidth - but there’s still a little paranoid bit in the back of my head that really wants to know what I did to offend Wyoming…

Last Saturday I attended a workshop run by Scott Church at The Roost in London. I met a lot of great people and shot some interesting images (shown below).

I added a new gadget to my desktop last week - a Space Navigator. For those with an interest in obscure old gaming controllers, it’s a bit like a desk-mounted SpaceOrb - a little puck that you can push and twist on its base to input movement in 3 dimensions (pan, zoom and rotate).

It’s intended primarily for use in 3D applications like Maya and Blender, but the thing that sold it to me is that it can also be used in Photoshop. The idea is that you use it with your left hand (if right handed) and can then pan and zoom around an image without changing away from the tool you are using. This is particularly useful when drawing a path with the pen tool, but is also pretty handy when spotting with the healing brush.

Even better, it costs slightly less than £40 and lights up blue.

You could say that this was one of those images that nearly didn’t happen. I last worked with Lelly 6 months ago during her pregnancy - you’ll find the image we took then, Mother and Daughter, in the Pregnancy gallery - and I’ve been meaning to shoot her again ever since.

So we arranged a preliminary date for a shoot, and, despite the myriad conveniences of modern communication, managed to miss each other repeatedly until the morning of the proposed shoot. Tip for mac users: AdiumX eats offline MSN messages. We did, thanks to Lelly, manage to get things sorted in the end, and spent a couple of hours shooting with the infrared Nikon. At the end of the shoot, with no particular plan in mind, I decided it would be a good idea to see how lightpainting worked in infrared. This was the result. Good things come to those who wait

Dee wanted some pictures in her new corset, and asked me to shoot them. So for her first time as a model she not only had to deal with my long-exposure shots and cramp-inducing poses, but had to do so in a corset and heels. Thankfully she survived, and with these results. I think they may have surprised a few people.

As a result of Kodak’s decision to discontinue HIE High Speed Infrared film, I finally decided to have my Nikon D100 modified to make it a full-time infrared camera. The results are very different to those that I’m used to getting with the infrared film, but I’m really having a lot of fun with it. These shots of Denise are from my first studio shoot after the conversion.

I’ve taken several shots that incorporated projected images, but these have always involved creating a transparency in advance as I used an old 35mm slide projector. With this shot I used a laptop and a digital projector, which allowed me to shoot the projected image on the spot and made it easy to re-shoot it to suit the final image. Thanks to Ellie for her patience as both model and projection screen.

This is long overdue, but I’ve just uploaded a fix to get DomianMirror working with WordPress 2.3. Thanks to SecondeVue for that. It’s currently just a new version of WP-DomainMirror.php, so you need to replace that one file and you should be back in business. The zip file was created on a Mac so Widows users will see some other files in there - these can be ignored. I’ll put together a full archive tomorrow.
